Don't overload your spine.

Have you ever heard someone say "I have strong back"? What exactly does that mean? While strengthening the muscles around your spine is a great idea, there is no amount of muscle tone that can prevent you from injuring your back if you exceed the amount of stress that your spine was designed to handle.

So what is the maximum amount of stress that your spine can handle? The answer is that you won't find out until you injure your spine and your body sends pain signal to your brain telling you that you have exceeded your bodie's limit. The maximum amount will be different for each person and changes as you age. So just to be safe, always use proper lifting techniques and err on the side of asking for assistance when moving heavy objects.
